Bringing Baking Opportunities to Local College!

Local independent school Queen’s College are pioneering in their approach to Food education, with a newly opened Leiths training kitchen and a head of department determined to drive students towards great things.
Here, at Brook we wanted to help keep up the momentum by supporting them in their baking-based lessons, so, we’ve partnered with the school and will be planning to deliver bakery product-based workshops, test bakery visits and also equipment to help the school teach the nuances of the bakery sector to students. This all starts with the installation of a brand-new Nero 400 Micro Bakery oven, which with its stone baking surfaces will help students bake authentic bread products.
The opportunity to inspire students who have an interest in the skills, processes, science, and flavour of ‘bakery’ is very exciting, and by delivering the Nero 400 oven the path is laid for an exciting future of understanding.
We caught up with Joe Mann during installation of the oven;
“We’re very proud to be part of the Leiths education partnership, and as apart of that we’re one of the few schools around the country that deliver a whole array of Leiths education courses.
The Nero 400 oven will be used by the pupils for baking all sorts of breads, pastries and advanced enriched breads. Allowing us to teach those higher-level skills in a much more commercial environment.
For pupils it’s important to understand where food comes from and how its produced, the Nero 400 will help us show our pupils exactly where their daily bread is coming from and will enable us to replicate that standard right here in a classroom setting.
We’re proud to be at the start of this journey with Brook Food, use their test bakery and be able to engage the pupils in real life experiences. We’re very proud at Queen’s College to be able to have that link with the futures of where our pupils are going to be beyond their education.”
