On Thursday 21 October, we announced and celebrated our Baker of the Year 2021winner, Tim Goodwin.  The Baking Industry Awards were hosted by Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood at the Royal Lancaster, London. And we were delighted to once again be celebrating in person!

This year saw us judging a number of fantastic bakers at the top of their game, making the judges job a challenging, but exciting one. After much deliberation, we selected our 3 finalists; Mark Woodgate – Marks Cotswolds Bakery, Lee Smith – Poppyseed bakery and Tim Goodwin – The Street Bakeshop.

In our specialist craft industry it’s the bakers skills and technical understanding that we need to see shine through and we were looking for signs of their hands on involvement and interest in what they do. Plus showing their passion for their products, the industry and the creative process, showing us they understand their customers, product lines and a skills that allow for constant innovation and progression.

Without a doubt, Tim delivered on all of this, making him a very worthy winner of the Baker of the Year 2021.

Tim’s baking oozes class and his standard is evident throughout his entire product range, with his sourdough at the top of its game. We saw Tim demonstrate quality at every level, through hands-on baking, product creation and development to understand his range and customers. Tim’s creativity and baking style was reflective of a considered approach that obviously pays off, the standard in the product spoke for itself, but Tim is able to back up his work with dedication and passion, creating a great baking experience. Tim is a Benchmark due to the great standard he bakes!

Judging this prestigious award is a great honour and one that we are very proud to be involved with.

Once again congratulations to all our finalists and our Baker of the Year 2021 winner – Tim Goodwin!
