Brook Ladies Complete Pretty Muddy and smash their target.

Back in January of this year, Emily in Ops decided that she wanted to take on a physical challenge whilst raising money for a good cause. She found that there was a Pretty Muddy event taking place in Bristol and decided to rope in as many of the Brook Ladies as she could.

Our Team Brook Ladies was created on the 30th January consisting of Emily, Elle, Kerrie and Jo from Ops, Ann and Samia in Marketing and Sharon from Spares.

Pretty Muddy 5k was a particularly poignant event as it was all in aid of Cancer Research.

We now know that Cancer affects as many as 1 in 3 people and it was no surprise that out of our team, 4 of the girls had relatives affected by Cancer. In particular Kerrie and Ann who have both last their fathers to this horrible disease.

Ann and Kerrie were happy to share their stories with everyone to highlight the importance of taking part and raising us much as we could.

I’m doing this in loving memory of my greatly missed Dad, whom we lost in September 2014 to cancer. I know if he could he’d be watching me make a fool of myself and having fun and be super proud. Not a day goes past that I don’t think about him 100 times over, I hope that one day they’ll be fewer and fewer people who have to be in this position.  -Ann Wells

I lost my dad to this awful disease 5 years ago. He managed to live up to 4 years with cancer spreading throughout his entire body and 2 weeks before he passed was putting up shelves in my brothers home and running my shopping up and down three flights of stairs to ensure he could do all he could for his family before his time was up. 5k of mud seems very minimal in comparison but am accepting this challenge as a tribute to the strong, proud man he always was and always will be in our hearts.

This disease takes more and more lives every day, not only does it physically affect the people it captures, it mentally destroys the lives of loved ones involved. One day we will live in a world where this disease is beaten in every one of its ugly forms and by fundraising this is the best we can do to help - Kerrie Wilson

Having set themselves an initial target of £350 equating to £50 each worth of sponsors the ladies were overwhelmed with the support of all their family, friends and colleagues and to date have raised £1329 for Cancer Research, which made every minute of running and crawling through Mud, Climbing Cargo nets and going commando through tunnels on a boiling day worthwhile. As the ladies came running through the finishing line hand in hand it was a true sign of solidarity for everyone who has lost their lives to Cancer and continues to fight.

Now to decide on 2016 Challenge ?
